Asher Brown Durand (1796 – 1886) was an American painter of the Hudson River School.

He participated to the organization of the New York Drawing Association, which became the National Academy of Design.

He started as engraver and then he was interested in oil painting and especially in landscape painting.

He tried to paint the landscapes with as much more realism as possible.
